// About the Area //

Maalaea is one of Maui's best-kept secrets - centrally located between Kihei, Lahaina, and the airport, yet tucked away from the crowds. This laid-back harbor town features walkable access to Sugar Beach, Maui Ocean Center, boat tours, and casual waterfront dining. Guests love the balance of convenience and quiet, making it an ideal home base for exploring the island.

Maalaea is also home to the legendary surf break “Freight Trains,” considered by many to be the fastest right-hand wave in the world. While it only breaks under specific swell conditions, its presence gives Maalaea a unique status in surf culture and adds to the dynamic energy of the area.

With easy access to snorkeling tours, whale watching, and upcountry excursions, Maalaea offers an unbeatable mix of adventure and serenity. Whether you're seeking a romantic retreat, a family vacation, or a convenient launch point for island exploration, Maalaea provides an authentic and unforgettable Maui experience.
