South Kihei

The heart of Maui's beach scene, with the Kamaole Beach Parks, walkable restaurants and shops along South Kihei Road, and condos that put you steps from the sand.

Beach Town Energy, Island Soul

South Kihei is where most of the action is on Maui's south shore. South Kihei Road runs parallel to the ocean for several miles, lined with restaurants, shops, food trucks, and beach access points on nearly every block. The neighborhood centers around the three Kamaole Beach Parks, each one a wide stretch of golden sand framed by lava rock outcroppings with excellent snorkeling right off the shore. Kamaole I has a public volleyball net and a shaded picnic area. Kamaole II is often the least crowded of the three. Kamaole III is the locals' favorite gathering spot, with a grassy hillside park that doubles as a natural amphitheater for watching sunsets and spotting sea turtles in the late afternoon. The Cove, located near Kalama Park, is South Kihei's go-to surf break for beginners. Charley Young Beach sits just north of Kamaole I and is known for its natural shade from Ironwood trees and calm, shallow waters. Heading south, Keawakapu Beach connects South Kihei to Wailea via the paved Wailea Beach Path, a stunning coastal walk that passes resort pools, lava rock formations, and some of the island's best snorkeling coves. The range of condo properties here is wide. Oceanfront complexes like Hale Hui Kai and Mana Kai Maui sit right on the water, while communities like Kamaole Sands and Maui Kamaole spread across landscaped hillside grounds with pools, tennis courts, and ocean views. Budget-friendly options such as Maui Vista, Kihei Akahi, and Island Surf put you within walking distance of the beach without the beachfront price tag. South Kihei is where families come back year after year, where couples find their favorite sunset spot, and where the pace of island life feels just right.
